1
What is hyperbaric oxygen therapy?
Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) is a non-invasive medical treatment that involves breathing in oxygen that is a higher concentration than what would be found in normal atmospheric air. Each treatment is performed in a cylinder chamber with an unobstructed view out.
2
How does hyperbaric oxygen therapy work?
HBOT provides highly concentrated oxygen to your body, which increases the amount of oxygen that your blood can carry to parts of your body that are injured. The increased oxygen enhances the ability of your body to kill bacteria, reduce swelling, and allow new blood vessels to grow quicker. This will decrease healing time for wounds, provide for faster recovery from surgeries, and much more!
3
Is hyperbaric oxygen therapy safe?
Safety is our top priority! Each patient will have a consult with our on-site physician before beginning treatment. Along with a registered nurse, the physician will review your medical records and medications. A care plan will be developed specifically for you.
Typically, patients do not experience any side effects from the actual treatment. The most common concern is during the compression and decompression phase (these usually take 10-15 minutes each) when you may experience a fullness in your ears, similar to reaching high altitudes on a plane. The chamber technician will assist you with techniques to clear your ears.

What about oxygen toxicity?
Oxygen toxicity is a RARE side effect of oxygen therapy. As an added safety measure, our technicians will provide an "air break" every 30 minutes during your treatment.
4
How long are treatments?
Treatments are ordered based on your medical diagnosis and severity of your condition. Treatments may be needed for a short time (as few as 10 treatments) or for a longer period (sometimes up to 40 treatments.) This will be determined at your consultation/first visit.

Each treatment will last around 2 hours. This will include compression of the chamber (10-15 minutes), the actual treatment time (typically 90 minutes), and decompression of the chamber (10-15 minutes). Your technician will also be checking your ears and vital signs before and after the treatment.
5
What should I wear?
Because safety and dignity are always our goal, we will provide you with 100% cotton scrubs, as well as cloth slippers, to wear at each of your treatments. We offer a changing room that is adjacent to our chamber area. For your comfort, we also offer heated blankets for use while inside the chamber.

A safety checklist will be reviewed with you on your first visit, as well as before each treatment. Personal items are prohibited inside the chamber.
